In the latest version of Apple's 'Pages' word processor, it now tells you when you have written what it regards as 'weasel words' i.e. essentially cliché. I can't work out whether this is good or not. On balance I think I object to having my machine telling me what's not acceptable - after all, there are times when that particular cliché is exactly what needs to be written...

I would tend to agree - I think on balance I'm not a fan of tech 'helping' me write (although without spellcheck I would frequently embarrass myself). Breaking the 'rules', or at least subverting them, requires awareness (perhaps I should just practise my spelling more!) Then again, my tired writer brain might argue that AI like that would be pretty helpful at times - if you know the cliché/grammatical error/rogue comma is there, you can make an informed choice as to what to do about it ... it's interesting for sure.
